toddlers in tutus

well, we've been mighty busy here with back-to-school, resurrecting sewing machines, fabric shopping, birthday presents, craft fair preparations and of course sewing, sewing and sewing.
but i digress. i just wanted to unveil the tutu portion of that whole "custom camera strap covers AND tutus" business.



tutus are hand-tied to a length of ribbon loosely determined by your child's age and/or waist size. as your child grows, the knots holding the tutu in place may be loosened and the strips spread out just a smidgen more to fit your little princess for longer. for example, my 9 year old can wear her 2 year old sister's tutu although her own tutus have been made specifically to account for her larger waist size and contain more tulle to create more poof, which is really all these kids are thinking about. am i right?



single and double colour tutus start at $12.00 for sizes 6 - 12 months, $15.00 for ages 1 - 4 and $20.00 for ages 5 - 12(ish). please add $2.00 for each additional colour. Easy peasy right?



matching onesies or shirts are available but i might have to go shopping for your size so please contact me for a quote. designs will vary based on the outfit you're creating for the special little girl in your life. as always, your ideas are welcomed and i will do my best to make it happen.



tutus are a perfect hallowe'en costume or dress-up accessory. think yellow and black for a bumblebee, pink and black for a punk princess, red and white for minnie mouse, black and orange for a hallowe'en witch or classic pink for a ballerina. the options are limited only by your child's play and imagination!

definitely more tutus to come and hopefully more photos. we're counting on the weather (and the children) to co-operate fully with us and our demanding expectations. hmmm, well, we'll have to see about that, i guess!

quick release kits now available

these quick release kits allow you to clip your strap on and off for quicker cover changes (you know, instead of rethreading it each time). on the more practical side, they are also pretty handy when you're using a tripod and don't want your strap dangling in the way. see? you can have your cake and eat it too. and it looks pretty!

custom camera strap covers

mama scissorhands is proud to announce that we are now offering custom camera strap covers. classic one-fabric slipcovers are $15.00 each; patchwork (as in the example pictured below) are $20.00 each. i will also be offering a multiples discount (please refer to the price list in the sidebar) because i know that sometimes i like vanilla ice cream and sometimes i like chocolate better...maybe you're the same way?
each strap cover features double reinforced stitching on the inside seams and topstitching for a modern look and to ensure durability. if your camera is going to look good, we want it to look really good! for additional comfort, a double layer of felt is sewn into the middle of the strap where it rests on your neck.
with the correct measurements, these covers can be custom-made to add a personal flair to any camera strap, not just your dslr. i have many fabrics available (including manly choices...i know that men want cool cameras too!) and i can probably acquire almost anything your camera wants to wear. or if you have a favourite fabric on hand, i am more than willing to create a one of a kind cover just for you...ahem, i mean for your camera, of course!
